The supercar that almost wasn’t, and still might not be, the Lexus LF-A, recently underwent a special kind of exhibition in Milan during Fashion Week, and now it has been spotted once again in prototype form ahead of a rumored debut at October's Tokyo Motor Show.

The LF-A has been spotted testing on a number of occasions, so it's well past the 'pure concept' stage, but its production future still remains murky at best. The Japanese company's investment in the LF-A at the recent Milan Fashion Week, however, lends credence to the idea that it is in fact going to be built, and this latest prototype features some new elements have never been seen before.

First and foremost are the new tail-lamps, which are likely to be the actual production units. Also new is the smoother body and integrated diffusers at the front and rear of the car.

If the LF-A does go into production, it is expected to cost more than $200,000 and sport a 5.0L V10 engine rated at over 500hp (373kW). Limited production is also the name of the game, with only about 1,000 units expected unless demand proves high enough to support more. A hybrid variant should also be available, but it’s unknown how much power this version will have or what affect the heavy batteries and extra motor will have on handling and weight.

The car's front mid-engine placement, along with a rear-mounted transaxle and rear-mounted radiators, should allow for excellent weight distribution, however. Lexus has billed the concept version of the car as having a top speed in excess of 200mph, and we have no reason to doubt the production version will reach these limits if sold unrestricted.

ffpower says: Ok Toyota/Lexus, I am slowing losing my patience with the LF-A, whether it'll make it to production or be canceled just announce it already!

This is from Autoblog:

We've been reporting on the Lexus LF-A since 2005, and since that time we've shown you the debut of two separate LF-A concepts, an LF-A Roadster and a race version of the LF-A that competed in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. What we've yet to show you amongst these concepts, race cars and the many spy shots in between is an actual production version of Lexus' supercar. After hearing nothing about the LF-A for some time, we've been informed that a new prototype is currently testing on the Nürburgring in Germany. Though wearing camouflage, the new LF-A can definitely be seen sporting a new front- and rear-end, as well as additional sculpting to its side air intakes found ahead of the rear wheel and between the B- and C-pillars. If there's one thing we know about the LF-A with any certainty, it's that we know very little. The production version is rumored to produce over 500 horsepower from what will likely be a V10 engine, and the car itself should be capable of over 200 mph. A $200,000 price tag has been thrown around as well, though you have to question the strategy of a mainstream automaker like Toyota selling such a supercar when the entire world is caught in an economic sleeper hold.

Ok, so what the fuck do you so called auto "enthusiasts" want? When Toyota/Lexus didn't have a sports car you guys made it sound like a first-degree murder. Now when Toyota/Lexus is ready to bring out a WORLD CLASS super car you are questioning about the point of its existence? Make up your fucking mind! Sure the economy is bad right now but rich people are still rich. For those who can afford the LF-A, $200k for them is like $200 for people like you and I, deal with it!

R8 vs. LF-A?

Not even comparable...

The V8 model is already something like $120k and rumor has it that the V10 will be close to $180k. If that's the case then LF-A all the way.

Yup, the LF-A is V10 and rumor to have AT LEAST 500hp, the guess right now is probably around 550 if not more.

Latest spyshots show new interior for Lexus long awaited hypercar, the LF-A.

Auto Express has got the inside line on the long awited Lexus LF-A, as our spies have grabbed the first ever pictures of the production ready model's carbon clad cabin.

This mule is also the first to sport road ready wheels, and with only light camouflage at the front and rear, reveals just how agressive the new machine is going to look when it hits the road next year.

Offering drivers an incredible 550bhp from a highly tuned 4.8-litre V10 the car also gets a 6-speed semi-auto gearbox.

Recent revisions to the car's aerodynamics mean the strict two seater is now capable of over 218mph.

That’s faster than the production Nissan GT-R and puts the LF-A on hallowed ground with the likes of Ferrari Enzo, Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 and Pagani Zonda F, that have similar top speeds.

Just 500 cars will be built, and options will includes a high performance sports package version boasting a wider body and beefed up aeroparts similar to those seen on the race version at Nurburgring.

And if the race car’s lap time of 7 minutes 13 seconds is anything to go by then we can expect blistering pace from the production model too.

Prices for flagship versions are expected reach £190,000.

ffpower says: I like how the steering wheel looks, rims look pretty good too. Seems like the LF-A is edging closer and closer to production.
